Live Music

MICHAEL ARENELLA

Michael Arenella is a musician, crooner, bandleader and impresario best known for leading his Dreamland Orchestra at his Jazz Age Lawn Party on New York’s Governors Island. Michael’s love of Jazz Age culture inspired him to throw the first Jazz Age Lawn Party in 2005 for an intimate group of friends and fellow torch carriers of a bygone era. While first timers might have thought it a historical reenactment, to Michael, his orchestra and his admirers it was all genuine. For Michael, the Jazz Age never really ended, it just fell asleep. Today, he reawakens it wherever he plays. Now, whether on Governors Island or South Beach, this living legacy is again vital within the zeitgeist of the present.

In addition to spreading the good word of Hot Jazz through his annual events, fans can follow Michael and his music at his NYC residencies: The Clover Club and Flatiron Lounge, as well as through his albums “Blue River” (2011) and “Just in Time” (2015)

Dogs featured prominently in Art Deco life.  The love of all things streamlined influenced the popularity of certain breeds in the ‘20s and ‘30s with images of greyhounds, borzois and salukis.  These breeds were particularly popular in mainstream art and cultural icons, as well as dogs such as Scottish terriers being popular in jewelry pins and broaches.  Art Deco Weekend will be celebrating the role of dogs with its own “Bark Deco Dog Show” held on Sunday 14 January at 1 PM on the steps of the Art Deco Welcome Center on Ocean Drive.

This is a fun dog show full of prizes and ribbons and special treats – anyone with a dog can enter.  In addition to seeing some of the finest and most talented dogs of Miami, there will be a mini-show of dogs looking for adoption as well as other guest dogs and their handlers.
