4 pm - 7pm

Lenard Ruledge Art Deco WeekendLeNard Rutledge, born and raised in Miami, Florida, where there are only a handful of truly great jazz vocalists, is usually compared, aptly, to the legendary Lou Rawls. Like Rawls, Rutledge's classy elegance is often permeated by the raw passion of his church choir work. In fact, Rutledge still sings with the choir at The Church of The Incarnation. Rutledge began not as a vocalist but as a percussionist, playing in the marching and concert band at Miami Central Senior High, and later making his income while attending Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina.  He began his vocal career in 1997 when he was asked to join the famed Melton Mustafa Orchestra after returning to Miami. LeNard was the featured vocalist for Melton Mustafa for seven years. In 2002, Rutledge was introduced to the music director of The Van Dyke Café's, Don Wilner, who immediately recognized Rutledge's talent and began giving him regular performance dates. LeNard has shared the stage with a number of highly respectable jazz artist such as Wycliffe Gordon, Kenny Drew Jr., Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kirk Whalum, Marion Meadows, and the late George Duke.

Followed by Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra - Jazz Age Lawn Party: 8pm - 10pm

Ashley pezzotti Jazz quartet miamiCapturing the heart of audiences with her extensive repertoire and roots in traditional jazz and bebop, Ashley creates an atmosphere of excitement that will transport you to another place and time. Her style is reminiscent of the great Anita O'day and June Christy, and she performs with a level of maturity that is far beyond her years. Born in Queens, New York, Ashley discovered her love for music when her Dominican Father would sing her classic Spanish songs to sleep. It became apparent that this fascination with music would continue to grow exponentially over time. At the young age of 4 years old, Ashley began her musical journey by taking classical voice lessons and continued to study music throughout her school years. Ashley was 1 of 8 vocalists in the nation selected to participate in the Grammy Jazz Ensemble (in 2013 and again in 2014) where she was given the opportunity to perform at the Official Grammy After Party, the Official Grammy Nominee Party, and the American Country Awards on national television. Additionally, she was the YoungArts winner for Jazz Voice in 2013 and was named a YoungArts winner for Popular Voice in 2014. Over the years, Ashley has been given the opportunity to study under incredible musicians including Grammy award winner Placido Domingo, Cyrille Aimee, Kenny Barron, Branford Marsalis, Cheryl Bentyne, Kevin Mahogany, and Julie Silvera. She has performed with Keith Urban, Latin singer Juanes, Chick Corea, Delfeayo Marsalis, Vampire Weekend, and Arturo Sandoval.

Followed by Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra - Jazz Age Lawn Party: 6pm - 10pm

Registration at 11:30AM  - 12:30PM
Show starts at 1:00PM

Free and Open to the Public

Welcome back to the fifth annual Bark Deco Dog Show, sponsored by Blue Buffalo!

Dogs featured prominently in Art Deco life.  The love of all things streamlined influenced the popularity of certain breeds in the ‘20s and ‘30s with images of greyhounds, borzois and salukis.  These breeds were particularly popular in mainstream art and cultural icons, as well as dogs such as Scottish terriers being popular in jewelry pins and broaches.  Art Deco Weekend will be celebrating the role of dogs with its own “Bark Deco Dog Show” held on Sunday 20 January at 1 PM in Lummus Park between 12th and 13th street.

This is a fun dog show full of prizes and ribbons and special treats – anyone with a dog can enter.  In addition to seeing some of the finest and most talented dogs of Miami, there will be a mini-show of dogs looking for adoption as well as other guest dogs and their handlers.

This is one of the most popular events during Art Deco Weekend.  You can register on the day, but to be guaranteed entry please register online.  If you do so, you will receive a special gift on the day.
